Set Goals For The Decade

Setting Your Sights On The Future

This time of year always brings with it the “resolutions” to change either what we didn’t like about  last year and or the feeling of having a clean slate to make things right and to achieve more. At least that’s how I’m feeling. So now that we’re already into 2010 let’s get to talking about setting some goals. I’ll share with you a “coles notes version” of one of the methods I use to set goals and then I’ll ask around for other pointers you might use. If you have something that we could all find helpful in achieving what we want say something already!

Keeping Your Goals S.M.A.R.T

I was taught early on that the only difference between a goal and a dream is that with a goal you have a date attached as to when you want to achieve your dream or goal. There are a variety of tips and pointers on how you can go about setting goals and one of the ways is to use the  S.M.A.R.T method.

Mandatory Rule – Write Down Your Goals

Specific – Be extremely clear on what you want
Measurable – Know how and when to record if you’re on track to achieve
Achievable/Attainable - I still push this to the limit and try and reach outside the box a bit
Realistic - Earning $100,000/yr from being unemployed is possible but if you don’t believe it no chance
Timely - You have to put a date. There is power to having a time stamp

Wikipedia has a variety of other terms you can certainly substitute if you want to have a peek. You can also find some great MP3 files here on the subject of goals. It’s an affiliate of mine and there are some great tools here to sharpen the axe.

I’ll share with all the readers here what areas I’m actually focusing on for my goals and I’ll constantly be encouraging many Bloggers to share theirs as well. Often when we see others setting their sites on their goals it can drive us to want the same things for ourselves. There are many resources and books on the subject but for now let’s see what YOU think about SMART.

What’s Your Opinion?

  • How do you set goals?
  • Where did you learn to set goals? School? Seminars? Network Marketing? Where?
  • Did you achieve what you wanted in 2009?
  • Why do you think this year will be better?
  • How are you keeping your goals in front of you? Keeping them top of mind?
  • Is there someone to hold you accountable yet?
  • What will you being doing different to move closer to your goals?

Be sure and add me to your social networking sites so I can achieve one of  my goals which is to continuously connect with new like minded entrepreneurs and people in pursuit of excellence across the globe. Find me on Twitter  @StephenWelton

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

MERRY CHRISTMAS

For those of you who celebrate Christmas we wish you a very safe and happy holiday. Remember… between racing around mall parking lot’s (if you waited last minute to shop) and hustling to get everything you think you need done on time to take a moment and reflect on all the things your grateful for. So often at this time of the year we see people being completely over worked. They sleep less, eat worse and stress more. Take a few minutes to yourself and do some quiet “thinking”. You will be amazed at how much noise you have going on inside.

RUSH RUSH RUSH

This time of year makes me really practice the skill of having patience. Everything speeds up yet it’s so slowed down. Think about it. From parking to grabbing your favourite cup of coffee. You’re most likely going to be waiting in a line. I maximize my time in the car with motivational music and audio and my favourite music. When and if you feel yourself rushing take a deep breath and just enjoy “BEING”.

What’s Your Opinion?

  • Have you actually thought about giving a gift to a complete stranger and expecting nothing in return?
  • Is there someone you know that could use a Christmas Card? More like a ” I’m thinking of you and wishing you the best in 2010 card?
  • What one thing could you do this year to surprise someone with something totally unexpected?

Be sure and connect with me if you want to develop yourself and those around you next year.

I will be sharing more and more of my success and my failures online. I hope you find the things interesting. If you don’t well then I guess you won’t be around on my website will you?

KNOW YOUR WHY OR LOSE YOUR LIFE

THERE’S A REASON YOU NEED TO KNOW YOUR WHY

Goals

Now I’m not trying to strike any nerves with my post here but through out my website you will often find me referring to the WHY in everything. There’s power behind knowing YOUR WHY. The best way for me to share with you the power of why is to share a story.

(*Gee I really do like talking and writing about myself)

SEVENTEEN AND I KNEW EVERYTHING

I’ll bring you back to when I was about 17 and a little bit (BIG TIME) out of control. I wasn’t consistent in getting results in any area of my life but then again it’s rare to see 17 year old kids in my circle of influence getting them. I was already involved with the “experimentation” of alcohol, staying out past curfew (did I even have one?) and I just wasn’t connecting well with anyone long enough to take any advice or guidance. Long story short I was letting myself become influenced by things around me and making poor choices.  I thought I already knew it all and in fact had decided to stop learning anything. I was lost.  (That’s until my “Uncle” got a hold of me)

YOU WILL GO THROUGH CRAP!

I was lucky enough one year during a very long road trip from Nova Scotia to Ontario to spend time with “Uncle” and this time was a no holds barred kind of ride. My “Uncle” really let me have it at the core when it came to figuring out what the heck I wanted and made me stop to consider TAKING ALL THE BLAME for everything that was going on in my life.  He wanted me to become aware. To know that I can ultimately control the outcome of my success by focusing and doing the right things consistently. All of this was completely new to me. The ability to consciously make choices, write down goals, think about the future beyond the weekend, and just using my time wisely.

TO DO IS NOT ENOUGH. KNOW YOUR WHY!

Now he had me listen to ” THE STRANGEST SECRET ” both in the background as we chatted and while I slept at times. We weren’t in a rush home so I must have listened to it 10 times or more. (Repetition is critical)

It came to light that while anyone can do something you have to KNOW YOUR WHY. So an exercise my “Uncle” learned was shared with me and you will often find this exercise through out all self development books from some of the great leaders in our world like John Maxwell, Anthony Robbins, Les Brown and many more. (There might be a reason WHY)

When I share with you a little bit more about my “Uncle” later you will realize get to see that the WHY is more important than the HOW. I’ll also share with you a diagram I think that might help you visually see how I keep focused on my goals how you can use this image to get yourself closer to success.

WHAT’S YOUR OPINION?

Now I know some of you involved in my business and those I’ve never met achieving around the world already “KNOW YOUR WHY” so take a moment and share your thoughts.

TAKE ACTION! THINGS YOU CAN DO NOW:

  • How has knowing your why helped you succeed doing what you do personally and professionally?
  • Why should YOU have goals?
  • What are some things you do to be reminded of your goals?
  • What can you suggest people do if they don’t know what their WHY is?

FOR THOSE WHO NEED TO LEARN WHY HERE’S THE NEXT STEP:

  • Write down everything you want for yourself out of life. (Be Selfish!)
  • What do you want to HAVE? Who do you want to BE to your friends, family, loved ones and those you care about? (Do Comes Later!)
  • Write down everything you want for the people you care about out of life. (Be Generous!)
  • Write down how it would make you feel to accomplish these things you’ve listed. (Be Aware of these feelings)

I truly hope those of you involved in my business of appreciating others have taken my encouragement to complete this task to heart above everything else you do or plan to do when getting started on your path to success. Let’s continue to achieve.

Gary Vaynerchuk – Stop Watching *@#$% Lost!

Are you offended by Passion? (RATED PG13)

Gary Vaynerchuk is the founder and entrepreneur behind Wine Library TV and speaks to an attentive audience learning more about building your brand and hustling your ass off to be successful. Gary believes that to be successful you have to be doing what you love. He speaks about how social media exposes everything you do both personally and professionally. Gary leveraged Social Networking to explode his business. I’ll have more on Gary later.

What’s Your Opinion?

  • Are you building your personal brand on social networking sites?
  • What are your thoughts about being completely transparent with your business and personal life?
  • Are you watching Lost? lol

Success Is No Secret

THERE ARE NO SECRETS WHEN IT COMES TO SUCCESS

There’s clues all around you . . .  when you’re ready to start seeking success out of course. It’s no easy journey but that’s why the rewards of achieving success (what ever that is to you) are worth the work.

If you have a professional work ethic (one that never quits when things get tough) and you’ve already written down your family and personal objectives you might just be ready to start your personal development.

I ‘ve made the commitment to myself this past month that I’m going to start sharing some resources that I’m using to attract what I need to grow myself personally and professionally. As I continue to share these resources I hope you too can move closer to your goals.

Here’s a short video that was suggested to me on You Tube. The author is Earl Nightingale. You can likely pick up his audio and such on a variety of websites however if you want to go through some of my affiliates or you can shoot me a message to help you. Either way this is something that had a profound impact on my results both personally and professionally. My Uncle David was the first one that introduced me to this audio and it was on cassette.

I remember listening to The Strangest Secret over and over to the point that I wore it out. When I was taking the bus to and from school (yes I took the bus for the longest time) I used the time to listen to this audio. Make the time to study this material and I promise you will not be disappointed.

WHAT”S YOUR OPINION?

  • I Would love to hear your comments about this video, got any?
  • What other resources have you used like The Strangest Secret?
  • Have you actually written down your goals on paper?
  • Are you looking at your goals daily?
  • What are some ways that you can keep your goals top of mind?

MUCH SUCCESS EVERYONE!

Back On The Blog

It’s been almost two years since I’ve been online. I truly hope you will engage me and the members of my blog. I’ve had my share of challenges and I hope my story will remind you that no matter where you’re coming from it’s not nearly as important as your ability to choose where you want to go.  I appreciate you all. – Steve
